Blood Test appointment update – please read

Throughout the year the demand for blood tests varies. As a patient you may need a blood test for a variety of reasons.

  • One of our clinicians may have asked you to have a blood test following a consultation with them or may want you to repeat a recent blood test.
  • As part of a review because of the medication you are taking.
  • As part of a long-term condition review, for example Diabetes.

We try our best to offer appointments at one of our 3 sites. At the current time due to the high demand for blood tests we may not be able to offer you an appointment so our Patient Liaison Team (call handlers) will ask you to go to hospital to have these tests carried out.

It is important that you have the bloods taken when they are needed. For example a clinician may ask you to have a blood test in 1 week or 2 weeks’ time. There could be times when we may not be able to offer an appointment within this time frame at the surgery. If this is the case we will ask you to collect a form to take to the hospital.

Please be aware we do not offer blood appointments requested by hospital doctors. You will need to book an appointment at the hospital for these.

We appreciate that patients may find it frustrating if we are unable to offer them a blood test appointment at the surgery but would request that you please be kind to our call handlers. They are working hard to provide you with support, which may on occasion involve signposting you to other places to make sure you get what you need.

Many thanks for your understanding and co-operation.
